PSO & PAM Operators

PartnerPlast Inc. is seeking to contract qualified, experienced Protected Species Observers and PAM Operators for potential surveys on geophysical operations that become available when we are awarded an PSO/PAM project.

Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Actively assist the vessel’s maritime and geophysical crew in monitoring and reporting sightings of protected species.
  • Follow visual surveying protocols and search methods for locating and tracking different types of species.
  • Accurately record data using standard forms and reports; determine range, distance, direction, and bearing of protected species and vessels; record GPS location coordinates, weather, and sea conditions.
  • Wherever necessary, according to legislation or recognized industry practice, take positive action to avoid any interference or negative interaction with protected species.
  • Implement Passive Acoustic Monitoring (PAM) for the detection and presence of calling marine mammals.
  • With the visual aid of required optics identify and immediately notify crews in the event of a sighting which requires implementation of mitigation measures.
  • Provide field communication/support with appropriate personnel using devices including two-way radios, satellite phones, Internet, email, and facsimile.
  • Perform data analysis and write technical reports.
Qualifications:

  • BS in Marine Biology, Zoology, or a related field is required.
  • BOEM and/or JNCC accreditation.
  • 2+ years of marine species monitoring experience.
  • Expertise in identifying sea turtles and marine mammals.
  • Familiarity with the Endangered Species Act and Marine Mammal Protection Act.
  • Proficiency with software tools
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Valid BOSIET and offshore medical (UKOOA/OGUK) certificates.
  • Familiarity with protected species biology and behavior.
Salary: Commensurate with experience and qualifications.
